Two weeks ago when in Paris I got invited to try the vegan afternoon tea at Shangri La Paris.

After a visit of the fabulous hotel that was created in 1896 by the prince Roland Bonaparte, we went to try the one and only vegan afternoon tea in Paris.

Not really a french tradition I know, but afternoon tea are very trendy in Paris right now and many hotels propose it on their menu. It is a cool thing to try out on a weekend’s afternoon when meeting with friends or simply to rest while visiting the are (by the way if you need tips on visiting Paris, my friend Julia make a very cool article about how to beat the longest queues while visiting paris).

The difference between other afternoon tea and the afternoon tea at Shangri La Paris is that this one is vegan and as I said below, it is the very first one in Paris.

I am not vegan and I am don’t aim to be but I was very curious to taste vegan pastries. They were surprisingly tasty. I always feel like vegan products are having too little flavor but this was anywhere the case at Shangri La.

Next to the scones, shortbreads and finger sandwiches, Michaël Bartocetti, the pastry cook also revisits some classical french pastries like the calisson or the Mont Blanc.

Another good point when treating yourself to a vegan afternoon tea is that since everything is vegan, it is therefore light, for a guilt free gourmet afternoon 🙂

For drinks, as Shangri La they serve the most gourmet asian tea by Dilmah a family tea grower in Ceylon/Sri Lanka. All teas are, made out of hand-picked tea leaves, unblended and rich in antioxidants.

If you are not a fan of afternoon tea, I can still recommend this unique place in Paris. Indeed Shangri la is a trip into the past with it’s original interiors remembering the classical spirit of the 18th century. While beeing there, it is so luxurious that you will feel like a princess.
