New sushi spot in Berlin – Sticks N Sushis

Recently I went to Stick’N’Sushis for the second time. This Japanese restaurant has became one of my favorite, if not my favorite sushi restaurant in Berlin. It is situated in the newly hyped Postdamer Strasse, a part of Berlin I always like more to go to because there is always something to discover, like Sticks’N’Sushi that opened earlier this year.

Sticks’N’Sushi is actually a restaurant chain from Denmark that opened in 1994 and since then in many more cities in Denmark, UK and by the latest in Berlin.

I am generally not a fan of chains, but Stick’N’Sushi is really good quality. The first time I ate there I had a salad with fresh fish inside, while this time I went for their specialities, sushis and yakitori.

We started with a small chaos bowl made out of chisari with salmon, avocado, snow peas, trout roe, marinated shiitake, sushi rice, soy sesame, wasabi & ginger and a seaweed salad made out of seaweed, kelp noodles, tomato, radish, aspargus, yuzu vinaigrette and goma.

As a main we had a variation of sushi, with as favorites spicy tuna and gipsy roll, both with chili inside! So good!

And for the yakitori we had Gyu Habu : a rib eye beef stick with miso herb butter – it was so soft, it melted in my mouth and Buta Yaki, a free range pork stick with yuzu miso & sesame.

What i love about sticks’N’Suhis is not only the food but also the design of the restaurant. In Berlin, many restaurant have quite good food but the owner mostly don’t invest into how looks like the restaurant. Vintage furniture found at a flea market are mostly enough to them. And after 10 years in Berlin, I am a bit tired of every restaurant looking like my grand mother’s living room. I am actually really happy when I go to the restaurant and it offers me something not only in the taste but also visually. Sticks’N’Sushi did not miss that. I mean it would be a shame for a danish company to not be into design. I love the open kitchen, geometric bar and serpentine stairs as well as the cool design details on every table.
