It’s been two weeks since we are back from our fantastic family winter holiday in Kaiserwinkl, Austria. And it is highly time for me to share with you our experience.
Last time we visited Kaiserwinkl during spring, but we were eager to see its snowy side, so we packed our bags and made our way back to the charming village of Walchsee. We stayed at the same family hotel than last time, Hotel Seehof. Once again, I can highly recommend it, especially for those traveling with kids. It’s a heaven for families, housing Austria’s largest indoor waterpark, offering free pony rides, a petting area with adorable animals, and a kid club starting from age four.

One of the highlight of our trip was definitely to see Maya, hit the slopes for the first time at the verz family friendly ski resort Amberglift. Rather small and with only one blue slope and some training slopes, it is the perfect place to learn how to ski. The ski resort offers morning classes for kids as young as three. In a two hours, kids learn the basics of ski but also have great fun thanks to a snow carousel and a snow motorcycle ride. It’s such a thoughtful approach, ensuring the kids have fun while building ski skills.
Also for adults or older kids, Amberglift is a great place to hone your skiing on its one blue slope, and it’s quite affordable!

Skiing is also available at two other ski resorts—Zahmer Kaiser and Hochkössen—both in Kaiserwinkl, which you can access with the Skicard Kaiserwinkl.
If you’re in search of longer slopes, Wilder Kaiser or Steinplatte aren’t far away too.
If you are not into skiing? No worries! There’s so much nature to soak in around here. Cross-country skiing, scenic walks by the Walchsee and the nearby moor area, a magical horse carriage ride, and if you’re looking for a thrill, snowtubing on rubber tires, where you can zip down at speeds up to 50 km/h are some of the many other things you can do in Kaiserwinkl.

Kaiserwinkl is incredibly family-friendly, never feels overcrowded, and is easily accessible from Germany, being close to the border. It’s a hidden gem that guarantees a fantastic family adventure with something for everyone, regardless of age. If you’ve been searching for a cozy, welcoming spot to create wonderful family memories, Kaiserwinkl should definitely be on your list!
