With 37 degrees we decided to spend the weekend in Rügen island. A beautiful island in Germany famous for it’s cliffs and seaside towns : Sellin and Prora.
Weekend in Rügen Island – Chalk cliffs in Jasmund National Park
We first went to Sassnitz to see the famous Chalk cliffs of Rügen. Worth seeing it!!! What I really enjoy was that the beach was so wild, with huge tree-trunk (you can see below how much I loved to climb on this one tree!). The cliffs reminded me a bit of Etretat in France. We were thinking to stay in Sassnitz the entire weekend but after we saw the cliffs we realized there is nothing else to do in this little town so we decided to take a train on Sunday morning and go to Binz, the famous seaside town of Rügen.
Binz and Sellin – Famous seaside towns in Germany
We decided to end our weekend in Rügen island in Binz for the famous German Strandkorb and the beach feeling. We spent the all day enjoying the sun and went home late on Sunday evening.
If you are less lazy than us, you can stroll around Binz and the other town : Sellin, there are many shops and restaurants and the pier is really nice. Especially the pier in Sellin is really nice in a 1920’s style.
A bit of history in Prora
Maybe also interesting for people who like history. Prora used to be Hitler’s project. He wanted Prora to be a beach resort. Since it’s construction it served many purpose and is now a hostel. It seems a bit strange to me that someone would want to sleep at this place though.
