In Zermatt for the Swatch Skiers Cup

Swatch asked me if I would be interested in coming to Switzerland to watch the Swatch Skiers Cup 2015 that consists of a few days of ski competitions: the back country slope styles competitions (off piste skiing) and a big mountains competition.

So some of you might wonder: Les Berlinettes is a fashion Blog so why is she going to watch a ski competition?! Well first of all, it’s not only because I write about fashion that I am only interested in fashion. I am a very curious person, and my answer to most things would always be, “sure why not”, and that was also here exactly the case. I am not the best skier, and I have no idea about ski techniques but I didn’t hesitate one second in participating in this event, because I feel it was something exciting and new, and there is nothing wrong in learning new things.

Once there, I could have hated all the ski competitions, but I loved it and this experience will stay as one of the most exciting things I have ever done and a life lesson. We indeed in the first evening watched a movie called Days of my Youth in which we follow the journey of 2 artistic skiers: Cody Townsend and Richard Permin and we learned why they do what they do. Some will call them crazy, because it is really a bit crazy to jump cliffs all by yourself in the mountains, but the way they see life is also very inspiring. One sentence in the movie I remember and won’t forget: “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”

On the second day we went to see the Backcountry slope style competition. I took a helicopter for the first time in my life, which was awesome and we went to watch the world’s best Freeskiers from America and Europe compete against each other at the feet of the famous Matterhorn. The competition consists for the skiers in going down the slopes but what is pretty impressive are the jumps they do from the cliffs. Team Europe won, but for me everyone is a winner since I don’t know much about the techniques of skiing and every jump looked pretty amazing.

Swatch was really cool and let us bloggers experience the lifestyle of those skiers as well. We were able to put on skis as well. Beginners (last time I skied I was 8 years old so iIaneeded a refresh) like me could take a course and then explore by themselves the slopes around Zermatt that are amazing by the way. I would recommend everyone to go there for a winter holiday. You can find informations on where to stay in Zermatt depending on your budget o Arzo Travels blog.
