Something I always wanted to do when in Marrakech was to go glamping in Agafay desert near Marrakech. For this, we choose Scarabeo camp where we spent one night.
How to get to the Scarabeo Camp in Agafay desert
Agafay desert also known as Stone desert is only 30 minutes away from Marrakech. The best way to go there is with the shuttle provided by Scarabeo Camp. It will avoid you to have to negotiate the price of a taxi. If you decide to go on your own, it will cost you around 100Euros return.
Glamping Scarabeo Camp
While I always wanted to try glamping in the desert in Morocco, I was also scared that Agafay would not be so worth it. Indeed, the real desert of Morocco is a bit far away from Marrakech and you would need a few days to explore it. Therefore, Agafay desert seemed a good alternative.
After a drive on the main road, our car drive for a little bit off road to get to the Scarabeo camp. The first thing I noticed when arriving at the camp was how pretty the landscape was with the view of the desert and the Atlas mountains in the background.
We got welcomed with a traditional Moroccan tea before going to our tent. As I said, the Scarabeo camp is a glamping experience. It is much more luxurious than a camping. The tent is very pretty decorated with oriental boho vibes. It even has running hot water, a toilet and a fireplace. We were quite happy to have this fireplace as we were there in January and temperatures can be quite low at this time of the year especially at night.

Food at the Scarabeo Camp
As the Scarabeo camp is in the desert, I highly recommend to book your stay with half or food board. The food is great.
Breakfast is a buffet with some trypical moroccan specialities : argan marmelade, moroccan crepes, of course Moroccan tea or coffe and a egg station.
Lunch is a variation of mezze but what you will not want to miss is the dinner that is a one in a lifetime experience. It is very romantic and definitely something that you will want to experience if you travel to Marrakech with your partner. The dinner is a 3 course candle light dinner. You will be served soup, a chicken and vegetarian tajine and a dessert.
Activities at Scarabeo camp
Scarabeo camp offers some activities free of charge like boules, books and other board games. If you want more, you can also book a quad or a camel tour. We did not book this as we just wanted to chill but it is definitely an option, especially if you are staying there more than one night.
Fazit – Glamping in Agafay
I loved Glamping in Agafay. It is definitely to consider if you want to see more of Morocco but only have a few days there. Also it is the perfect place to relax after a few days in Marrakech or even after a tour through Morocco.
