travel blogger diving Fulidhoo Maldives

When planning my trip, some friends recommended to go to one of the Maldives local Island. We decided to go to Fulidhoo island for it’s great dive site.

When talking with my friend Sarah about diving, she recommended me Fulidhoo Island so we decided to give it a try.

How to get to Maldives local Island Fulidhoo from Male?

Fulidhoo Island is situated in the Vaavu Atoll and is there are two options to go to Fulidhoo. The cheapest one (3,50dollars and around 3 hours away from Male) is to go by Ferry and the second one is to go by speedboat (around 50dollars and 1,5hours away from Male).

One thing to know when traveling in the Maldives is that Island transportation is not running all the time or everyday so it is best to plan in advance in order to not loose time. Also you should bring enough cash money with you as there is no ATM on the island.

Where to sleep on Maldives local island Fulidhoo?

Fulidhoo Island is a Maldives local Island in full bloom. There are a few guest houses on the Island and many in construction. We stayed at the Luau Beach Inn (*affiliate link), it is a lovely guest house situated not too far from the pier and with a few seats on the beach. Nothing too special but the host are very nice and the food is very good as well. While walking around I also noticed the Thundi Guest house (*affiliate link) to be nice, situated in front of the pier.

Fulidhoo diving with sharcks – Review Fulidhoo Dive

As mentionned before, Fulidhoo was recommended to me by my friend Sarah who is the owner of Girls that Scuba, the biggest scuba diving community for women. She did scuba diving in some of the best places in the world and she told me that the Fulidhoo dive was one of her favorite. A great place to dive with sharks. On Fulidhoo Island there is a 5 stars Padi Dive Centre, owned by Ali Miuraj & Adele Verdier-Ali. Both very nice and professional people. Ali is Maldivian and knows the Maldives and the area around Fulidhoo by heart. Also he has some good work references like being a dive instructor at the Four Seasons resort in the Maldives. I am a recently certified open water diver so I am definitely not a good diver yet, but Ali always was very patient, helped me relax and get better. Thank you so much for this!
There is no need to be an advanced diver to experience great diving in Fulidhoo. If you are a good diver you won’t be disappointed either. The Vaavu atoll has got many channel dives where you can see Sharks, mantas, rays, turtles etc. Also from Fulidhoo Island you can go to the Alimatha House Reef for a night dive where you can see up to 100 nurse sharks. I will definitely go back for this one!

Good to know : Fulidhoo dive has a four day package with 8 dives starting from 599USD per person on a half board basis. Contact them for more infos!

Bikini beach on Fulidhoo Island

When on a Maldives local island, one should know that you can’t go to the beach in your bikini everywhere. On every Maldives local island there is a bikini beach where it is allowed go in your bikini. The one on Fulidhoo Island is rather small but very nice. There are not many tourist yet on the island so you are always almost alone on the beach. On the beach, there is a little bar serving fresh coconut and snacks.

For the active ones, it is possible to rent a kayak and more close to the pier.

Day trips from Fulidhoo island

Your guest house or Fulidhoo dive organizes some day trips to deserted islands close by that are so called “picnic island”.  They will take you snorkeling or to some luxury resort islands if you want to experience the luxury side of the Maldives. If you want to know what it is like to stay on a resort island, I stayed in 2 great resorts that I can recommend : Maafushivaru, a 5 stars resort island and Kuramathi, a bigger 4 stars resort.
