In the summer I visited my friend in her hometown Region : Marche Italy. We focussed on one thing in this region of Italy, Beaches. So below are my top 3 beaches in Ancona and surroundings.
I have been to Italy and at the beach before as a child and one thing I could remember next to the taste of the Gelato, was how colorful the beaches were. This and the flair is what I tried to capture in my pictures below.
The Marche, Italy, is a region less touristic than Emilia Romagna in the North or Toscana in the South but perfect if you want to connect with locals.
We explored three different beaches near Ancona : Porto Recanati, Portonovo with it’s crystal clear water, and Civitanova the chic and most animated one. All real “made in Italy” beaches.
Best beaches in Ancona : #1 Portonovo, The Marche, Italy
Portonovo is situated in the beautiful Conero Park and is the closest beach to Ancona. You can access one of the beach directly by car or you can take a hiking trail to go to one of the wild beaches. Take you hiking shoes with you. We made the mistake to go by flip flop and we could not access the beach as it was way to slippery. Don’t make the same mistake.
On the beach you can access by car, you will find both private areas where you have to pay for a sunchair and public areas where you can directly lay on your towel.
Portonovo is by far the most beautiful beach in the area;
Best beaches in Ancona : #2 Civitanova beach, The Marche, Italy
Civitanova is a not a very well known seaside city. It is where locals of the region hang out and go to the beach during their lunch break.
Civitanova has a very long and sandy beach where you might want to spend time if you are in the area. It can be a nice day trip from Ancona or maybe after a bit of shopping at the designer outlet Il Castagno village in Civitanova.

Porto Recanati is THE seaside city where tourist spend their beach holidays in the area. It is 8km of gravy sand and many bars, restaurants and other facilities.
