If you follow me on Instagram stories you probably saw that I did Coolsculpting this week in Berlin. Many of you already reacted to this, some of you in a positive and some of you in a negative way mostly because you did not see why I would do such a procedure as I am already quite skinny. As I showed in my Instagram story, I was very chubby when I was younger and even though I lost weight and I do a lot of sport I still have a belly that just does not go away. It gives me lot of insecurities in my every day life and I just decided to do something against it to feel better.
I can understand when people do not agree on this but it is my choice and I expect people to respect this. In general I am not against plastic surgery, non invasive or invasive if it helps you feel better. Your body your choices!!! Just pay attention not to get addicted or to do it for the wrong reasons.
Anyway, Coolsculting by Zeltiq is a new method for cryolipolysis that is a medical treatment that freezes fat cells and helps fat reduction. It is a non invasive method which means you don’t need any surgery and it helps you loose up to 25% fat in the treated zone. So it is perfect for people who don’t need to loose a lot of fat.
While I was told I need only 1 session to see lose fat around my belly area, some people need 2/3 sessions for ideal results.
How does Coolscupting works?
After I choose the specialist that did my Coolsculpting intervention, Dr Mertz, I met with her to see where I want to loose fat and hear about the procedure. I told her I would like to eliminate the fat in my stomach area and my muffin top. She examinated my body and told me that I was a candidate for Coolsculpting. Some people can’t do Coolsculpting as they are too skinny already but that was not my case.
She explained me how Coolsculpting works : “its principle relies on freezing fat deposits in order to reshape body contours. The exposure to cooling is set so that it causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without apparent damage to the overlying skin.” “Fat cells that are frozen during the CoolSculpting procedure gradually die off and leave the body through the body’s natural elimination process. That’s why the results are long-term”.
She also told me more about how the procedure would go on during my second appointment and the risk of the procedure.
What are the risk of a Coolscupting procedure?
As any thing you put your body through you can put your body at risk. This risk with Coolsculting is very low though. The most important thing to do though is to go to a Coolsculting by Zeltiq certified practice as Zeltiq ONLY received a FDA certification (= American Food and Drug Administration approval) for their cryolipolysis device. Indeed, many practice cryolipolysis but not everyone is allowed to do it. It can be dangerous to go to a wrong practice because you can get seriously burned from the cold and even die during the procedure…

What happens during a Coolsculpting procedure?
The day of my cryolipolysis session I went to Dr Mertz and she weighted me, took my measurement and pictures of my body so that she can see how effective the Coolsculting session was.
You can see the first results 6 to 8 weeks after the procedure so it makes sense to have a before after picture to see how your body really changed.
I then lied on a bed and she applied a gel and applicator that delivers controlled cooling on my belly (the targeted area) for 35minutes. After that time the applicator is removed and the targeted area starts defreezing.
This same procedure is applied to all areas where you wish to loose fat.
Does Coolsculpting hurts?
Coolsculting does not hurt. I would say that I am pretty sensible and the procedure was totally fine for me. When the applicator is applied, since it is very cold, you can experience a stinging or burning sensation. This last only a few minutes then you barely feel anything. This same sensation comes back when the applicator is removed but this is totally bearable.
After the cryolipolysis procedure you can directly go home. You can then experience something similar to muscle ache and your skin will be sensible but here again totally bearable. Today it is 5 days already since I had the procedure and I don’t feel anything anymore.
When do I see the results?
You will need to wait until the dead fat cells leave your body in a natural way which means that depending on your metabolism you will see the results after 6-8 weeks but you will have to wait until 12 weeks to see the end results. I am really looking forward to this!!
Where to do Coolsculpting in Berlin?
I heard through the grapevine about Dr Mertz so I decided to go there.
I can really recommend the practice of Dr Mertz. The practice is very nice and clean and gives a very good first impression.
Beside this I really had the feeling I can trust her. I asked about several things beside Coolsculting and the phycisian was very honest and kind to me. She never tried to sell me anything I would not need at any time which I think is very important.
