The second part of my trip took me to the newly opened Faarufushi Maldives resort in Raa Atoll.
How to get to Faarufushi Maldives resort?
How to get to a resort in the Maldives is always a big question. Faarufushi has two options. You can either arrive by seaplane from Malé or with a domestic flight + 10 minutes speedboat ride. There are several flights a day and you can even arrive in the evening – thing that is not possible in every resort.
We took the second option. We landed on Ifuru airport and soon we discovered the exclusive and intimist resort (only 80 rooms) that is Faarufushi.
Ocean Retreat with Pool Faarufushi Maldives resort
After a lovely welcome by the staff, we discovered our room : one of the ocean retreat with pool. It is 163 square meters of Hygge. Yes I say Hygge as the wooden bungalow have something of Scandinavia. It is like Hygge meets Maldives. I loved the floor-to-ceiling windows that give you a priceless view when you wake up in the morning and let you bath with the ocean within sight!
As the name says, the ocean retreat with pool comes with a terasse with an infinity pool and a direct access to the resort’s lagoon. Perfect for a dip in the morning and for snorkeling at any time of the day.
There are 4 other room categories in the resort. All rooms, but the beach bungalow category come with a private pool and the island residence category is THE ultimate luxury experience with +330 square meters, a jacuzzi, an XXL infinity pool on the beach and much more.
Facilities at Faarufushi Maldives resort
The fact that Faarufushi Maldives is a rather small resort does not mean that you will get bored. There are many things to do in the resort.
Spa at Faarufushi Maldives
One of the thing I was fascinated about at Faarufushi is the architecture. Nika Spa is no exception. It is a very cool place with it’s treatment rooms that are tree houses nestled is the island’s green. An oasis of relaxation with of course the best treatments.
For complete relaxation, the spa offers also yoga practice every morning!
Pool at Faarufushi Maldives
Talking about the pool, even those most villa have their own pool, there is a big infinity pool for all guest for those who want to swim some laps!
Restaurants at Faarufishi Maldives
Even though Faarufushi is a small resort, if has different dining experiences. And let me say on thing I ate VERY WELL!
Let’s start with IRU. It is the main restaurant of the resort where breakfast is also served in the morning. It offers international cuisine. From benedict eggs to Indian and Maldivian breakfast. For lunch and dinner : burgers and pizza or Indian, Indonesian and Japanese dishes. The chef, by the way is Indian and he cooked us the best dhal I ever had in my life. Therefore, even though I love all the food I had at the resort I recommend to try at least one Indian dish.
Above I mentioned the architecture at Faarufushi, Boli and Eclipse are my absolute favorite places in the resort. I got obsessed by the overwater structure of both the bar and the restaurant. Boli is the perfect place to watch the sunset while sipping on one of the amazing cocktails OR mocktails!! Eclipse, the overwater restaurant has all table facing the ocean and serves European cuisine with an Asian twist.
For a light Lunch, you will probably love Athiri, the tapas and ceviche restaurant situated directly on the beach. I personally loved it for it’s laid back atmosphere. Did I mention the restaurant also has a billiards and a table soccer?!
Finally there is Sangu, the pool restaurant for those who don’t want to leave the pool. It serves pizza, tacos and other snacks directly to your sun bed 😉
Experiences at Faarufushi Maldives
I didn”t stay long enough and also the weather did not permit to try any of the experiences proposed by Faarufushi but I think it is still important to mention what you can do.
As you are in the Maldives, the resort offers both diving and snorkeling excursions but not only. There is also the possibility to go visit the local island next to the resort. I highly recommend to take the excursion as local islands are a good way to see the real Maldivian culture. On my last trip to Maldives I stayed on the local island that is Fulidhoo and it was a fantastic experience!
Other possible excursions are fishing trip, sunset cruise, etc
Finally, the resort also proposes mixology workshops or tastings.
Fazit – Review Faarufushi Maldives resort in Raa Atoll
We had amazing three days at Faarufushi Maldives. Not only I liked the intimacy of the resort, the great staff but I also loved that it has something to offers for those who don’t just want to relax. Faarufushi belongs to Universal Resorts, the first company that opened the Maldives to tourism and it was a completely different experience than at the 2 other of their resorts that I stayed at on my first time in the Maldives : Kuramathi and Maafushivaru .
