It is already one month since we celebrated the launch of the Olympus PEN E-PL8 in Greece at the #PENPARTYGREECE. Since then I had the time to play a little bit around with the camera and now it is time for a review.
As you know I am using the Olympus PEN since around 2 years and I am super happy with it.
It is so amazing what this small camera can do. The Olympus PEN E-PL8 is still as small and handy as before and keeps its vintage look but has a slightly different design. It is more round and it comes in slightly different colors. The Olympus PEN E-PL7 is available in white, silver and in black while the Olympus PEN E-PL8 comes in white, black and a brown body. The perfect camera for someone who looks for quality in pictures and style in technologic accessories.
The new PEN camera keeps also its useful features like my favorite : the WIFI that allows you to shoot remotely from your phone, and transfer images to your phone via the Olympus Image share App.
It also still has the articulating touch LCD screen that allows you to focus and shoot directly by touching the screen but it comes with a new option for selfies as it automatically shifts into Selfie Mode when the monitor is flipped down. Also if the lens attached has a zoom, the camera will automatically zoom back out in Selfie mode for the best angle for all the selfie queens out there.
The Olympus PEN is also the perfect camera for all those who like to be creative as it comes with a lot of creative options like the art filters (read here my article where I tested many of
the art filters), the photo story that allows you combines multiple photos to create a story directly on the camera and newly with the Olympus PEN E-PL8, there is a new option that is the video Clips feature that allows you to create short stories à la snapchat but in higher quality. Indeed, you can directly on the camera edit a video made out of a few short videos and add music on it. Super easy to show your friends and family what your holiday looked
like in a few seconds, or super easy for fashion bloggers like me to create outfit videos, but
also what a better way to wish with all you friends someone’s birthday. In my case stay tuned for a very cool short film very soon on social media 🙂
During the #penpartygreece we also did a few workshops. One of them was the macro
photography workshop. I never really was interested in taking pictures of insect or flowers
so I never invested time in learning macro photography but we tried macro by using the
Olympus Macro converter lens. It is a lens that you can add on top of the lens you uses to take stunning macro-style pictures. Perfect to take pictures of jewelry for example or also food 😉
Finally, who says new camera, says new accessories to customize it. I already have some of
the accessories available for the camera : the camera pouches, the leather bag and the black and gold shoulder strap but I totally fell in love with the suede body Jackets and a matching
Shoulder Straps as well as the suede Bucket Bag. Both items come in different colors and look so chic.
Malaika Raiss a Berlin based fashion designer also created hands straps and shoulder straps in an exciting new range of colors : Arizona Dreaming, Oriental Nights and Blue Bon Boom.
